We retain full authority over all editorial decisions. Our funders, donors, sponsors, and fiscal sponsor have no right to review, approve, or influence our reporting before or after publication. We do not accept funding that comes with conditions on what we cover or how we cover it. Acceptance of any gift or grant does not constitute endorsement of the giver, and no funder relationship implies that our coverage of that funder or its interests will be favorable.
We make our own decisions about what to report, guided by news judgment and the needs of Utahns. We may consult with outside organizations on topics of coverage, but consultation never creates a right of review or approval.
Our news coverage does not endorse candidates for office. On ballot measures, we lay out what’s at stake and the strongest case on each side. When a writer shares where they landed, it’s in a clearly labeled My Take, and we never tell readers how to vote. We explain public policy; we do not campaign for it.
We adhere to the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics: seek truth and report it, minimize harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent.
